New paper: Model showing that increasing transparency and speaking-up rates in health-care organizations can, counter-intuitively, have negative effects if organizations are not prepared/funded to handle the increase. bmjopen.bmj.com/content/9/1/e0…

New: cs.bath.ac.uk/~jjb/ftp/Wilso…. We discuss how AI is altering the information landscape, resulting in previously adaptive information processing biases becoming maladaptive, leading to a rise in fake news & vulnerability to deception. We discuss fixes. Thanks @wilsh010 & Joanna J Bryson!

I have accepted a Lecturer (Research) position in Psychology at Bangor University! Couldn't be more excited! In the near future, I'll be looking for a PhD student interested in sitting at the intersection of psychology, computer science, and economics.

See also my paper with Paul Rauwolf & @wilsh010 Evolutionary Psychology and Artificial Intelligence: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Human Behaviour. cs.bath.ac.uk/~jjb/ftp/Wilso… Come to think of that, we should have seen proofs for that by now? Holly?

Spent several hours on MTurk paying subjects who played a one-shot Prisoner's Dilemma. Unbeknownst to me, I am clearly a third-party costly punisher. I was sweating having to pay people who took advantage of others. I had to restrain myself from creating a list of defectors.

Another book! It must be 2021 already :-) Some chapters look really interesting—thanks Todd K. Shackelford for the opportunity to contribute, and Holly & Paul Rauwolf for the effort that generated enough time to do so—& ideas that went well beyond my own! us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/the-…

Excited about our new paper in JEP: General (psycnet.apa.org/record/2021-27…)! Uncertainty about the outcome of a risky prospect can alter how we experience food and drink; uncertainty can make sweet rewards taste sweeter and saltier rewards taste saltier. APA Journals Bangor Psychology

Prosociality, need to belong, and mental well-being are associated with vulnerability to political misinformation. 40% of variance explained by negative affect and generosity in the Dictator game. Out-of-sample validation used. My preprint under review: psyarxiv.com/f9vdk/

Much delayed (I'm terrible at Twitter), but thank you so much to the The British Academy for offering me the Talent Development Award to use machine learning to better understand the psychological underpinnings of vulnerability to political misinformation. More soon!

Our new preprint (psyarxiv.com/twsjd/): Over 3 studies (N=1597), we find that when individuals try to learn how to manage a valuable resource in uncertain environments, simple cues about the possible longevity of the resource can help individuals improve their strategies.
