Not a wine professional by any stretch, but my one tip for navigating the sometimes confusing and often convoluted world of Burgundy is to keep an eye out for the word "Chambolle". The wines are always elegant and frequently brilliant. 💫

2017 Gaja Barbaresco. A classic, refined expression of Nebbiolo with rose petal, berries and anise. Medium bodied, elegant and a super way to end the week!

A lucky pull this evening with a blockbuster 2003 Clos de Vougeot from Drouhin. The winemaker notes are excellent too. Definitely didn't need the Durand!

The label has seen better days, but the 2005 Drouhin Chambertin Clos de Bèze is a beauty. This vintage will be long-lived.

Mint and eucalyptus... Martha's Vineyard is always a special wine. Such a unique and beautiful expression of Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. *Added bonus: not $8,000

Still deep, rich and brooding, Faiveley's 1990 Clos de Vougeot balances structure and finesse. Remarkable fruit and longevity given where it's at as a 35 year-old wine.

Last night's young, delicious and racy Charmes-Chambertin. A perfect anniversary treat. NY's The River Café has quite a nice assortment of Rousseau ... and a beautiful view.

Entry-level appellation -- epic producer. 2015 Domaine Leflaive "Bourgogne" is pale in the glass but surprisingly weighty and creamy on the palate. Beautiful minerality with a hint of smoke and plenty of citrus. The usual genius.

2010 Château Branaire-Ducru from my fav appellation, Saint-Julien. Suspect this is approaching it's apogee with soft velvety tannins and a perfect balance of fruit and structure. Dark berries, plum and a hint of balsamic. Long live claret! Wonder what Grok thinks...?

Back to Burgundy and cracking into 2018 Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Charmes". Bright and charming already, better in a few years.

2004 Léoville-Poyferré: classic Bordeaux, showing younger than its 21 years. Blackberry, leather, licorice and tobacco with a fair amount of tannins. Interesting cork too - thanks to John Veltheer for the intel on the #6 which indicates the cork lot. Who knew?
