Wonderful to have our colleagues from @unibo back with us today. The University of Bologna is the oldest university in the Western world and was founded in 1088 & University of Glasgow was modelled on this when we were founded in 1451.

William Thomson, best known as Lord Kelvin, was born #OTD in 1824. Matriculating at the University of Glasgow at the age of ten, he later held the Chair of Natural Philosophy for 53 years. In 1904, he was elected Chancellor of the University, a position he held until his death
