A little reminder that I have produced a beautiful hardback book of my photographs and words, 152 pages of Peak District inspiration, presented seasonally. It makes a perfect present or a treat to curl up with on dark evenings. 🥰 peaklass.com/product/a-quie…

In the dark days of winter I think our eyes become jaded, attuned to the browns and greys, and it's easy to forget the sheer exuberance of the countryside in May. Greens of every single hue, overpourings of cow parsley, the blue of speedwell, the pink of campion and the yellow of

Walking slowly through the evening light after a long day, I found myself following in the footsteps of these ladies as they kicked up dust on the dirt road. Dandelion seeds blew across our progress, a couple of blackbirds called out to us from the darkening hedgerows, and we

This is a wood that I pass on my way to work. No matter how rushed I am, I take time each morning to just wander here, soaking up the peace and the birdsong. Better than all the coffee in the world, it means that I always start every day with a clear head and a lifted heart. Of

There are trees, and then there are trees so special that they stand on their very own podium. This one is a treasure in every season, but adorned with the freshest, brightest new spring leaves, shining in the early morning sun, it's hard to imagine it ever looking more perfect.

I debated for a while about whether to post this photo - it's much more 'view'-ey than is my usual style, with a lot going on. But oh my goodness what a view it is, so I hope I'm forgiven. This is the tiny hamlet of Leadmill in the #peakdistrict, caught as the light shifts

A lot of people have recently commented, “Your writing is wonderful, you should write a book” (thank you so much 😌) - so I thought I’d take this opportunity to say that I have! It’s 152 pages of Peak District beauty through the seasons, featuring my photographs and words, to

I could say that I was spurred on by the morning light falling through the new leaves, by the clouds of dandelion fluff underfoot, or by the soft moss on the old stone wall ... but you all know it was that temptingly open gate at the end, don't you?! How could I resist?!

“I come to my solitary woodland walk as the homesick go home.” ~ Henry David Thoreau This is one of the most beautiful woodland walks I know. I love the arches of statuesque beeches, receding along the path like an arboreal Mexican wave, and that old stone wall that seems built

Spending time in nature is shown to improve health & wellbeing. Ordered this book & it’s perfect for a peaceful restorative pause when you can’t get outside. The images & words are really transporting. 💚

Little Hucklow is one of those blink-and-you've-missed-it #peakdistrict villages, a cluster of pretty stone houses straddling just one narrow lane, surrounded on all sides by wooded slopes. But walk through, stand for a while at the top of the hill and take the time to look back.

One of my favourite #peakdistrict walks is from the sleepy hamlet of Alport along the crystal-clear River Bradford. As you emerge from the shade of the limestone cliffs you enter meadows that are just overflowing with buttercups. There are swallows swooping overhead, cows and

Out and about in the early morning, hares are more or less my constant companions. They snooze in the dew-covered fields as the sun rises and lope languidly along the country lanes ahead of me, their gait rather awkward and uneven until they put the pedal down and race away over

A few years ago I stood at this gate and a little chestnut horse wandered over and gave me a big smile. That image is still used by BBC Countryfile on their greeting cards throughout the country. Recently I stood at the same gate admiring the view, and without me even noticing

With so much sadness and suffering in the world, I find more and more that I retreat to the seclusion of the quiet lanes. The only noise here comes from the birdsong in the hedgerows and the breeze in the long grasses, and if you hit really lucky there's absolutely no phone

This is my little home village of Hathersage resting in the slopes of green, the last of the day's sunshine pouring over the trees and houses. I heard cuckoos and church bells as I stood here to take this photograph, and to be truthful I could hardly bear to drag myself away.

Ahh, the heady days of midsummer - swallows swooping above, foxgloves in the hedgerows, long sunny days.... And so our thoughts naturally turn to the impending New Year and the need for a Calendar?! 🤭 OK, I know it's early, but I just wanted to remind you that my 2026 Peak

Of all the wonky gates in all the world, this one is definitely my favourite. OK, it's not the easiest to walk through, and it will try to chop off your legs if you're not paying attention, but it's reached via a quiet path lined with tall, waving foxgloves, like an honour guard
