I will be in Porto, Portugal, July 4-12, meeting some other science image sleuths, and giving a talk at Universidade Porto. Any journalist or other folks interested in meeting some of us?

The 10 biggest medical research papers from this week (in my opinion!) 1. The mTOR inhibitor, Rapamycin, extends lifespan in healthy mice, as does the MEK inhibitor, Trametinib Combining both together boosts mice lifespan by ∼30% biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 🧵

TP53: - Discovered 45 years ago, most cited gene all time - No therapies - 500 million people currently living will die of TP53 mutant cancers without new therapies Our Preprint: - A general strategy for TP53 missense mutant cancers (majority) with prototype small molecules

Yes. CNS are just like the Oscars. It's well know that filmmakers pay the Academy $10b a year to supervise the process, lets voters tell directors to reshoot with a list of 10 new scenes they must add, and the Academy owns the films at the end of the process.

Biggest medical discoveries of the week (🧵) 1/10 Spinal cord injury triggers activation of T cells, inflammation, and death of neurons Editing the T cell receptor, using mRNA, suppressed this, and helped recovery from the injury (in mice!) (Paper: nature.com/articles/s4158…)

Happy to share my co-1st author paper in nature on how the immune system adapts during gender-affirming hormone therapy with testosterone treatment (1/15) nature.com/articles/s4158…

New human T cell #proteomics data has been added to ImmPRes. The IL2 deprivation is particularly cool, you can see how amino acid transporters drop abundance dramatically after 24h IL2 deprivation.

Maybe I'm ignorant of a larger body of work, but MHC-independent TCR stimulation is not something I envisioned. Although diminished, CD4+ T cells develop in MHCII-/- mice, always guessed they might be MHCI restricted, but maybe they're MHC independent? nature.com/articles/s4146…

The topic is depressing but this is a stunningly clever bit of data visualisation that addresses a common debate point (total vs per capita emissions)
