On this day in 1896, Thérèse Casgrain was born in Saint-Irénée-les-Bains, Quebec. In the 1920s and 1930s, she campaigned in Quebec to get the vote for women in provincial elections. She succeeded in 1940. Later in life, she campaigned against nuclear weapons. She died in 1981.

On this day in 1914, Joe Shuster was born in Toronto. He co-created Superman with Jerry Siegel. He put some Canadiana into the character. The Daily Planet was modelled on The Toronto Star and Metropolis was based on Toronto. His cousin was Frank Shuster from Wayne and Shuster.
