I love this comic. It's a student submission from the UNESCO International Day of Mathematics that I saw on 1001 Math Problems (1001mathproblems.com).

I woke up and got on the train from bk to LI before the sunrise. Today I’m working with a team of educators from multiple schools. I’ll be teaching them how to effectively facilitate group work in their classrooms out near the Hamptons… If only it were summer and not 32 degrees

This is a gentle reminder to put experiences first and vocabulary second. Don't give new vocabulary until they need it, otherwise, they won't care. Give them those same words at the right moment &, they will use it, they will be grateful you told them, and they will remember it.

As someone with kids, multiple jobs, and my own company I have very little time. I use every second I get. Whenever I’m working in the suburbs, I walk up and down the railroad track at a decent pace to squeeze in a little exercise. I wonder if, to them, I’m ā€œthat guy who paces.ā€

I’m presenting at the limacon conference today! Come see me at 10:30 to talk about financial education or 1:45 to talk about exploring logarithms through manipulatives.

It’s very important that the new pope was a math major in his undergraduate university experience at Villanova. He’s the first pope we have to really understand not only sin, but also cos and tan.

How you know if you love your job? I’m riding on the train at 6 AM & there’s a girl doing her math homework. I have to resist the urge to peak (alg) & offer help. The urge is all consuming. Also, these old trains, remind me of pregaming for concerts when I was young.

"The word 'concept' is used in various ways; its sense is sometimes psychological, sometimes logical, and sometimes perhaps a confused mixture of both." Frege in 1951 commenting on the state of mathematics education in 2025. #MTBoS
