Thank you #sanfrancisco reddit community for this excellent commentary on my coyote diet research!🐋 If you missed it: some coyotes in SF occasionally use marine resources! Observations on iNaturalist helped ground-truth these findings. But whale is not a big part of the diet.

Excited to share this survey put together by members of the Brashares Lab and Middleton Lab here Berkeley Environmental Science, Policy & Mngmt. If you are affiliated with Berkeley and have concerns over the circumstances of climate change we would love to receive your input. Make sure to RT and share!

Second Dissertation chapter published! We found that Interstate-5 and the Washington Ship Canal acted as strong barriers to coyote gene flow in Seattle, Washington using STRUCTURE and private alleles. Congrats all! I’m excited to share that Stacks Journal just published their first articles with a new peer review process that is collaborative & transparent. Take a look at one of their first articles to see what makes them different. The future of scientific publishing is looking bright!

So excited to share this paper from me, Ben Goldstein, and Justin Brashares. If you’re interested in diel occupancy models, #cannabis and wildlife, or the variation in animal responses to human disturbance, be sure to give it a read! #cannabisresearch #oregon #RStats

I wasn’t able to make it in person to this year’s #ESA2024 so I was excited that they offered a virtual option but now that I see how little will be hybrid or recorded I feel a little ripped off. C’mon Ecological Society at least let me see the plenary and keynotes!

Happy to share our new paper out today!! 🦌🔥🌳 We investigate the plasticity of deer movement and behavior following a major megafire in Northern California Hopland Research and Extension Center. TL;DR : Deer can adjust their behaviors to keep up with a rapidly changing landscape! doi.org/10.1186/s40462…

How does cannabis farming affect wildlife? There’s been rapid growth of #cannabis farms in the US, but little is known about how #wildlife are impacted. So Dr. Phoebe Parker-Shames and her colleagues Ben Goldstein & Justin Brashares studied this question. Here’s what they found 🧵
