Reports suggest the RN will withdraw its sole frigate from the Gulf, without replacement, and both remaining MCMV platforms. This would be first time since 1980 that there has not been a Royal Navy escort in the Gulf region - a massive capability cut. express.co.uk/news/uk/207799…

The planed Army & RAF order of battle for a long forgotten and utterly fascinating 1970s 'out of area' operational plan. Full story to be revealed in the next PinstripedLine blog...

This article sums up everything that is wrong with military recruitment. An utterly risk averse process designed to weed out tiniest hint of issues but in doing so causing long term harm to military as a whole. telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/07/0…

Grim reading. By the end of 2025, the Royal Navy will have just 7 frigates in service, against a requirement for at least 13 plus 6 destroyers. Replacement T26 and 31 are years late and still years away from entering service.

Interesting. Worth noting that the UK was seriously looking at far closer nuclear cooperation with French in early 1990s and even thought about it in early 1970s. Good to see progress here.

The US Navy uses accom barges a lot. So does industry. This is an entirely sensible and pragmatic proposal that will save the taxpayer a lot of money and provide much needed accom for a complex refit. Common sense all round.

Grim reading - Only 3 escort ships of 14 deployed outside UK home waters, one of which will be scrapped later this year. The end of 45 years of near constant RN escort presence in the Gulf. Only 1 of 6 attack submarines active.

Grim reading from the NAO on the F35 fleet - short of people, infrastructure and weapons - not remotely reassuring to read. nao.org.uk/reports/the-uk…
