1/ Synbio has potential to enhance next-gen therapies, but how can we make clinically-viable, therapeutic circuits in human cells a reality? Excited to unveil 1st of several papers trying to address this question, led by the brilliant Divya Israni & Huishan Li biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Can tumor-infiltrating bacterial immunotherapy be controlled with focused ultrasound to enhance its specificity? Congratulations to Mohamad Abedi, Michael Yao and colleagues Caltech on demonstrating this possibility in their new bioRxiv preprint. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Exciting work by Mohamad Abedi and team to engineer a robust bi-stable system that actuates over a very small and therapeutically relevant temperature shift, along with a great demonstration of what on-demand in situ drug production can do.

x.com/KoleRoybal/sta… If you're interested in therapeutic SynBio and haven't seen these papers yet, check them out! Fantastic work from the Roybal and Lim labs demonstrating the enhanced precision and efficacy of engineered logic-gated T-cells!

Excited to share new work w/ co-lead Camillia Azimi, @MarsonLab Jeff Bluestone Roybal Lab: using a method we call 'CAR Pooling', we tested many CARs in multiplex & found new non-T cell signaling domains which improve CAR-T efficacy. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh… 👇🧵 1/10

I'm late to the tweeting party, but if you haven't had a chance, check out the latest preprint from the Roybal Lab! The team, led by Dan Goodman and Camillia Azimi used pooled screening to find CARs that induce augmented phenotypes in T-cells! Congrats Dan, Camillia, and Team!

1/5 I am excited to share this pre-print of ours out yesterday. Really fun project with Max and Kole Roybal digging into CAR T cell synapses and how variations in binding affinity/avidity affect synapse dynamics and T cell triggering. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

x.com/mikhailshapiro… Congrats Avinoam and team! Very cool work showing how ultrasound can synergize with synthetic biology to blast away at tumors. This was definitely one of the most fun projects to hear about in the office!

Why test #celltherapies one-by-one when you can use #SynBio to design, learn, and iterate on thousands in parallel? Our team UC San Francisco @MarsonLab Roybal Lab is #hiring a wetlab technician to help build the next revolution in genetically engineered medicine! DM for info & please RT!

Cute story alert!🧵Caltech two clueless office mates (DanPiraner & I) created a tool to control cells with ultrasound. As postdocs (UC San Francisco & Institute for Protein Design), we teamed up again (with Majo Duran & Adam Chazin-Gray) to build a tool for engineered cell signaling nature.com/articles/s4158…
