Important new research. Slow moving & “stuck” summer weather systems projected to become much more frequent due to climate change, exacerbating already extreme conditions. Hotter, more prolonged heatwaves, longer droughts, prolonged flooding rainfall.

🧵 I've put together this thread to show just how much flooding has happened around the world, and this is only for the month of September—and it's not even over yet! Please share this because I don't think the message is getting out there. Türkiye... x.com/volcaholic1/st…

For the first time Patient Earth goes through a full Health Check. The verdict is clear - the patient is in critical condition. The 1st Planetary health check gives us the quantitative diagnosis required to guide the transformations for a safe landing pik-potsdam.de/en/institute/d…

Biltmore Village in Asheville, North Carolina after the floodwater receded. Again, I have no words. These images speak for themselves.....

I see Prof Michael E. Mann's 1982 Exxon internal report and raise you a 1980 presentation by API to Exxon, Chevron, and BP predicting that 2.5 degrees of global warming would be so devastating to human civilization it would to bring "world economic growth to a halt."

Another scale busting map! September rainfall for the UK. Huge variation but parts of southern England seeing over three & a half times their average rainfall. Incredibly Bedfordshire & Oxfordshire saw their wettest month (of any month) in at least 188 years.

Devastating hurricanes, heatwaves, floods, and wildfires - we are entering uncharted waters, and cannot exclude environmental chaos as the 2024 State of the Climate Report shows. Important new report out now.

Big news in climate circles as the hugely respected @ELPinchbeck is confirmed as the new chief executive of Climate Change Committee. businessgreen.com/news/4367716/e…

Your periodic reminder that 15 years ago the entire global financial system nearly collapsed cos of a relatively small number of mortgage defaults in the US. This is what people mean when they talk about climate change being a systemic risk.

Hello—this is the cover of my new book, Is A River Alive?, which is published next May. It’s taken me 3 1/2 years to write this book. I’ve poured all I have into it. My notebooks were always thirsty; I filled over 20 of them while on fieldwork. It’s become the most political,
