A controversial proposal to relocate Kew Herbarium to make way for the so-called Science Quarter at Kew has sparked outrage among experts and the public alike, raising concerns about the preservation of this valuable collection and the lack of foresight in the proposed plan.

7/7/24 - A second day leading for Mariposa Nature Tours here in South Cumbria but this time on #HuttonRoof, with botanical treasures hiding in plain sight on the vast landscape. Yellow Birdsnest, variants and hybrids of Dark Red Helleborine and a Holly Fern among the highlights.

And that's just the cost of the building! Not to mention all the staff time taken already and the future plus costs of moving specimens, staff and collaboration across Kew's existing sites. It's a biodiversity crisis! Not the time to put the critical herbarium in a corner!! 🙏

Management maintain decentralising and deprioritizing Kews collection is to it's advantage. A worrying & very sad example of what happens when natural history collections are out of mind. West Japan university mistakenly discards 10,000 plant specimens mainichi.jp/english/articl…
