It took: 5 MDs 4 ICU RNs 4 RTs 1 perfusionist & 3 critical care paramedics 3 hrs To save my ~40 yr old #COVID patient with #ECMO It would have cost @ongov $114 (8h x min wage) to allow her husband to take a day off work from his factory in known outbreak. We have lost our way.

Let me distill this to the basics . We have real safety in sight . Not years but months away . I am viscerally angry at those that cannot endure a full pause for next month . They simply don't care about the lives and disabilities. Totally unnecessary.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ is pushing inequality to the extreme by not taxing a primary residence & inflating home values. Those who don't own a home, have to "catch up" with their only investments taxed at a higher rate. Tax the gains on homes, or drop the tax on investments.

FYI basic income while inflating home prices is the perfect combination... for Boomers. They'll have sweet $2 million dollar homes, basic income cheques, *and* won't need to pay property taxes. In exchange, middle and upper class millennials get to carry the tax base.

This is a human tragedy first and foremost. But the utter bungling of this entirely predictable (and predicted) health crisis by Ontario’s government and CMOH is, to my mind, an outrage.

I really don’t know what to say when our federal government admits that they have made housing in Canada better for foreign investors than for Canadians. Who are they serving – clearly not Canadians /

The answers being given in the referenced interview are incredibly sad given the current state of the Cdn housing market. Basically a straight-up acknowledgment that the current govt intends to sacrifice future generations to prop up current housing values. Cc Stephen Punwasi πŸšοΈπŸ“‰πŸˆβ˜ƒοΈ

When it comes to Canada's housing market, it's clear now that it was a deliberate strategy of the Justin Trudeau Liberal government to put the interests of foreign investors ahead of of Canadians 1/ theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/…

β€œWe have a very good system of foreign investment creating a lot of new housing in Canada” Now that our government has said it’s a β€œgood system” to sell off our new housing supply to foreign investors (vs domestic homebuyers), why is this a problem? 1/ youtu.be/OZChbNQWH3s?t=…

Real estate is zero sum. When the government inflates prices by 40%, they increase homeowner wealth by 40%. Young adults lose wealth, because that's the cost they now pay. When they say they won't let prices drop 10%, they are telling young adults to go fuck themselves.

Ottawa’s housing market is so nutty that at least one builder is now soliciting bidding wars for new construction homes in the suburbs - thanks Adam Vaughan (cc Stephen Punwasi πŸšοΈπŸ“‰πŸˆβ˜ƒοΈ Steve Saretsky): cardelhomes.com/ottawa/buy-onl…

Canada pumping home prices 40% higher in a year and telling young adults it would ruin retirements if prices dropped 10%... ... is the government admitting they billed young adults for boomer retirements, and they couldn't before the pandemic. Never waste a crisis, eh? #VanRe

The Federal government needs to invoke the Emergency Measures act and step in in Ontario. You can’t abandon Canadians to a government that doesn’t give a goddamn about them.

Ford owns this disaster. He has repeatedly refused to do what he needs to do. Elect a clown, expect a circus. I'm fucking done.

Michael Warner (@drmwarner) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Today I learned: - Doug Ford doesn't care about my patients or that they are primarily poor & racialized Canadians - essential workers will continue to die - triage will happen - Ontarians have not only been abandoned, but also blamed by @ongov for our collective situation

Canada’s housing crisis will do more economic damage than most can imagine. Not through a crash, but elevated costs force young people to worry about shelter instead of taking risks. It’s turned into a plutocracy to rent cheap labor to billionaires. jacobinmag.com/2022/01/canada…
