Sharing this again for those that may have missed it. I'm looking for a Research Associate that will support research in my future lab at Purdue.

Asgard archaea reignited discussions about the tree of life 🦠 But do they have eukaryotic features? YES!! 🤩 Check out our new paper nature by Florian Wollweber and Jingwei Xu, in an exciting collaboration with the Schleper lab Schleper Lab Vienna. nature.com/articles/s4158… 🧵1/4

New paper out! We are happy to introduce ā€˜Lokiarchaeum ossiferum’, an actin cytoskeleton carrying Asgard archaeon cultivated in our lab. Thank you very much to the Pilhofer Lab from ETH Zürich for this great collaboration. nature.com/articles/s4158… Rafael Ponce Florian Wollweber

I'm very happy to share our new paper recently published nature ! We introduce a new Lokiarchaeon with a complex actin cytoskeleton. A great collaborative effort between Schleper Lab Vienna and Pilhofer Lab nature.com/articles/s4158…

A sediment core from our trip to Piran, Slovenia this year. The same spot where Lokiarchaeum ossiferum, the actin cytoskeleton carrying Asgard archaeon, was found.

The best philosophy books I have read in 2022? Let me mention 3. First, The Knowledge Machine (Strevens). An original thesis on what makes science what it is - an almost pathological activity.

In case you missed the preprint, our paper on the archaeal AMO complex is out in its final form: rdcu.be/c4Bc7 We identified three unique archaeal subunit candidates (AmoXYZ) using proteomics, genomics, and transcriptomics, and investigated structures using AlphaFold.

Nice to see this out! "Pressurized upflow reactor system for the bioconversion of coal to methane: Investigation of the coal/sand interface effect" We were able to closely mimic the in situ conditions of methanogenesis in a coal seam within the lab. doi.org/10.1016/j.clce…

Instead of working on my thesis and practicing my presentation, I am using AI to recreate a deltaproteobacterium engulfing an Asgard archaeon, which then engulfs an alphaproteobacterium

I’m quite used to the cruelty students can face when they apply for a US visa but this one broke me. We offered admission to a stellar, talented & hardworking student. After months of work and hundreds of dollars, an embassy officer saw him for 5 mins & said no. why? …
