Day 1 of the 5-day data management and bio-banking training MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM kickstarted with introductory remarks from various stakeholders at MRCG. The session was a welcome to participants and the sustainable collaborations being fostered between PANGenS sites across Africa!🎉


“The data management life cycle and good data management practices” led by Lamin Bojang (Senior Data Manager MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM ) 📌“Involve data managers at the inception of your project. It is important to archive data in a way that makes it accessible, retrievable and reusable”🧑💻


Day 2/5🎉:The first session for today was on an “overview of the REDCap database by Lamin Saidy (Data manager MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM ) He took participants through the features,interface, applications and tools of the software and how it can be efficiently used for research data capture.

Session 2. 📌1/2: Dr. Prince Asare (Research Fellow Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research ) took participants through an “Introduction to PANGenS and the tuberculosis questionnaires”, stating the objectives, partnerships and integration of SOPs and techniques to aid in knowledge sharing and optimization. 🤝

Mr. Bernard Logonia (Data manager Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research ) took participants through an introduction to the PANGenS TB Database,a Hands-on session of REDCap and Site Data Monitoring and Reporting. This was aimed at helping participants understand and gain skills in data entry and reporting.📊

📌Final session was on the Fundamentals of Health Research Data Security and Data Sharing “The security of health data is fundamental in health research”- Badou Gaye MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM Ensuring integrity in research, its practices and the protection of the privacy of participants.

📌Day 3/5: Session 1 was on an “overview on Biobanking” delivered by Mathurin Diatta (The Biobank manager MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM ) He lectured on the types and organization of Biobanks, sample management systems, sustainability plans, emergency preparedness, advantages of Biobanks.🤝

📌Session 2 was led by Prof. Anita Ghansah (senior research fellow Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research )on the Governance of biobanks. She delivered on operational structures, key components, legal frameworks,governance models of biobank governance and QMS and the issues of ethics, rights and privacy.

Demba Sanneh Biobank supervisor MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM led the 3rd session on “Quality- Policies and SOPs”. Lecturing on development of effective Biobanking SOPs, key elements of SOPs, ensuring SOP compliance and Biobank policy-sample use,storage and retention and compliant disposal.📝

#HappeningNow The second edition of the PANGenS #DataManagement and Biobanking training is underway, organised in collaboration with MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM. Funded by Global Health EDCTP3, the training brings together researchers from 1⃣1⃣ countries in Sub-Saharan #Africa. #CapacityBuidling
