Free trade and laissez-faire was *not* the crucial ingredient to rapid growth and development in East Asia. Strategic state intervention was the key to success. Here is a summary of the massive policy toolbox of the state: Trade policy: tariffs, import licensing and export

Yesterday, at the 2025 Post-Budget Workshop for MPs, I had the privilege to present, the employment situation in the country and the need to interrogate policies with an eye for job creation. Hopefully, the macro framework wld include employment targeting in the near future.

Japan and South Korea are two of the most successful cases of rapid growth and development throughout history. China is now following their trajectory very closely.

African countries today have diversified trade ties with China as a major player. US tariff imposition is a call for increased intra-Africa trade as proposed by AfCFTA in an increasingly deglobalized world.

It's been exciting hosting two distinguished scholars in our Maiden FEMNET Lecture Series on Gendered Macroeconomics at the Dept. of Economics - UG. Unpaid care work is what sustains economies, families and societies, and must be factored in economic models.

Exchange rate has been a touchy subject since independence. Ghana is highly susceptible to external shocks. The country must address the structural challenges to reduce the over reliance on imports and increase the complexity of exports to build resilience.

Ghana's inflation for June 2025 slows significantly to 13.7% drivien by both food and non-food inflation declines, and which are supported by the appreciating Cedi and improved external front. With Israel-Iran conflict ceasefire holding, the external front looks moderately

Manufacturing isn't just factories — it's a range of R&D and engineering capabilities, including lots of high-tech services. This is why every country with a strong manufacturing base also has a strong science and technology base. They are intrinsically connected.
