Black-tailed godwits are returning to breed WWT Welney and other wetland sites around the Fens. If you spot birds with leg rings, look out for individuals with a lime coloured E as one of the rings. These were headstarted by Project Godwit and all sightings gratefully received.

Busy little #Godwits this #BiodiversityDay! You saw them hatching. They spent 4-5 days in a warm nursery growing & mastering those enormous feet! Then it's time for outside. As they strengthen & grow, their space grows with them. Then they get released. #bepartoftheplan

A one-stop shop for black-tailed godwit research! Resulting from Project Godwit workshop during #IWSG2022. Very clearly stating the research gaps that have been addressed since 2007, and which ones remain for us to fill. 👀👇

🐣 Headstarting black-tailed godwits in the UK to give them a helping hand as part of Project Godwit - how did it go?? 📢 The results of the trial are reported and discussed in our new paper in Animal Conservation: tinyurl.com/3dxp5pyn #wader #translocation #ornithology

Some very interesting MSc project opportunities available at RSPB Science for 2024/25 - can recommend working with @ProjectGodwit colleagues: @piedflynet on 'Determinants of godwit re-nesting' or Chris Batey on 'Black-tailed godwit egg laying cues' 😊 community.rspb.org.uk/ourwork/b/scie…

3/6 Project Godwit [projectgodwit.org.uk] was an EU LIFE-funded partnership between RSPB and WWT (see funders on slides). The majority of the >200 released birds were translocated between the Washes. Some eggs were rescued from flooding 🌊 #BOUsci24 #SESH4

There's a Black-tailed Godwit at the top of our Christmas tree! (carved by Gunnar Tómasson). And Black-tailed Godwit is still the top WaderTales species, with 26 blogs, three of which were published this year: wadertales.wordpress.com/about/ #ornithology
