Penn State Chemistry Cotruvo’s research centers around using biomolecules, such as proteins, to detect, recover and separate rare earth elements from ores and waste material. He also made discoveries related to the essential role that lanthanides, a series of chemical elements, play in biology.

Penn State Chemistry Zarzar is innovating polymer films with structurally colored research, and she doesn't only invent in the lab. She patented her structural color technology and earned funding to pursue applied research aimed at manufacturing, scaling and commercializing the technology.

Congratulations to Evan J. Burke, a grad student in the Krebs and Bollinger labs in Penn State's Department of Chemistry, on being named a 2025 #ACSBIOL Young Investigator! Penn State Chemistry

Fox Graduate School at Penn State Her work has contributed to the development of several major biologics, including Synagis, the first antibody licensed to prevent an infectious disease (RSV in infants), and more. Read more about her at bit.ly/4iCHHMz #PennStateChemistry Penn State Chemistry
