#happyhumpday!πŸ‹ Meet BCY0523 "Graze". Graze was first documented off BC in 2005 and has been matched to Maui in the winter. If you look closely at her pectoral flipper, you'll notice rakes, or tooth marks, from an encounter with killer whales! πŸ“·: Justine Buckmaster, Puget Sound Express

We have exciting news to share - the T37 pod has a new calf! We observed the new calf surfacing close to T37B (Harald), indicating she would probably be the mom. We see the T34s & T37s in the Salish Sea often, so we look forward to watching this little one grow. Photo: Bart Rulon

Who doesn't love a beautiful new Bigg's killer whale calf? This sweetheart, T49A6 was born in 2022 to mama T49A (Nan). Our naturalist/photographer Bart Rulon really has a knack for capturing these epic shots! bartrulon.com

Incredible! According to a post from Orca Behavior Institute, last year's record of unique Bigg's killer whale sightings has been crushed yet again with 1,221 unique sightings, 154 more than in 2021 and *DOUBLE* the number just five years ago in 2017! 😲 #biggsarethebalance

Saturday was the start of our Port Townsend Gray Whale tours! We spent time with β€œPhyllis” (531), who gave us a nice fluke - as well as Little Patch (53) and 2440. A fun day - daily Gray Whale tours run through April in PT as well as Seattle/Edmonds!

Another gray whale has returned! Gray whale #531 has visited Puget Sound regularly since 2000. She's one of very few female "Sounders", a unique group that detours from the outer-coast migration route to feed on ghost shrimp in the Salish Sea. πŸ“·: Bart Rulon, Puget Sound Express

Both our Port Townsend and Seattle/Edmonds Gray Whale Tours spent time with gray whales "Phyllis", 2440, & 383 today near Hat Island. Tide was high enough that they were in a bit of a resting mode...or as one of our crew called it - "a gray whale cuddle puddle!"

On Wednesday’s Port Townsend Gray Whale tour we were fortunate to spend time with gray whale 531 β€œPhyllis” as well as the T99 family of Biggs orcas near Clinton. What a treat!

SuperPod! An epic day for today's Port Townsend Half-Day Whale Watch tour. We encountered a Biggs (transient) orca Super Pod near Rosario Strait. The 123, 99 and 36 familes were present, along with the brothers 125A and 128. A goregous, calm Spring day.
