Universities keep charging more, they have huge property portfolios, stocks, & spinoff companies. Their incomes keep growing & staffing costs are normally only around 50% of total expenditure. They’re not broke, they’re not going bust like local authorities, they’re mismanaged

If they're in so much debt- why? Where is it coming from? If your income every year is in the hundreds of millions, you get huge amounts of govt money and research funding income. I would genuinely like to know as everything is so opaque. Servicing loans on buildings?
