At UCD's picnic day, folks from my lab and myself highlighted some of the ways pests affect agriculture in California (and gardens) and the natural enemies (lady beetles, lacewings, hover flies, parasitoids) that help us out.

Adult+larval lady beetles are always a good show since many don't know what the larvae look like OR that they eat aphids too. No photos of the many attendees to respect privacy, but the room was PACKED and there was a constant flow of people coming in to learn about insects.

Remembering Dr. Eric Mussen, 1944-2022, #ucdavis. He was a giant in the world of apiculture. He served as an #Extension apiculturist for 38 years and was a valued member of our faculty. The tributes are pouring in. We are heartbroken. #honeybees bit.ly/3zi9Jdi

Third in our #sagehenpride series we’ll talk about flowers!! 🌼🌸🌻🌺💐✨ The Sagehen basin has tons of plant diversity- our iNaturalist project documents HUNDREDS of flowering plant species including one of my favorites, the western columbine (Aquilegia formosa, pictured here)

We are recruiting a new postdoc researcher. We are using the genetic variation in Botrytis cinerea as a tool to investigate the evolution of plant immunity across the rosids and asterids and ascertain what mechanisms are really most important. Info here recruit.ucdavis.edu/JPF05063

New review paper out now on bee-fungi associations with Rachel Vannette and Makena Weston. We discuss some common fungal associations and their impacts on bees, and highlight how much there is to learn still about these interactions! doi.org/10.1093/femsec…
