But what I think would be most valuable is to change the research program around nudges. We need to go back to a theory-driven approach. Before testing a nudge, 1) show that behavior change is welfare improving 2) show that it is targeting a *limiting* behavioral friction. fin

DDL alum Ryu Matsuura just shipped an update to masala-merge — it now works in R! Masala-merge is a fuzzy match algorithm extending Levenshtein for Indian languages by imposing lower costs on string pairs like KS↔️X. Now available in Python, Stata, R! Thanks Ryu!

Exactly why governments should make data available in a timely and transparent manner, so that independent checks can happen. This shouldn't be thought of as criticism; we're all in this together. Glad that the clarification happened.

Erica York As for healthcare spending, there’s a bipartisan consensus on issues like site neutrality payments. It’s widely acknowledged that Medicare Advantage has a serious waste, fraud, and abuse problem thanks to upcoding. Republicans chose to go after Medicaid instead.

ChatGPT is rolling out a new mode called “Study Together” 👀 Instead of giving you answers, it acts like a tutor - asking guiding Qs and walking through problems step by step. Feels like a big step towards personalized learning (if it works!)

Trump's tariffs will cost the average household $2,400 per year, estimates the Yale Budget Lab. And they take a bigger chunk out of working class paychecks. The Admin hasn't released its analysis, suggesting it didn't do any, or its numbers are worse. budgetlab.yale.edu/research/state…

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers. The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.

I was one of the 16 devs in this study. I wanted to speak on my opinions about the causes and mitigation strategies for dev slowdown. I'll say as a "why listen to you?" hook that I experienced a -38% AI-speedup on my assigned issues. I think transparency helps the community.

India is nowhere close to being the "4th most equal country in the world". To the contrary, it might even be one of the most unequal. #BillionaireRaj Read this "Explained Economics" piece by Udit Misra & don't let propaganda fool you. Short thread with main issues at hand.
