Update: The FBI affidavit has been unsealed. FBI agents identified Hoopes as the suspect through facial recognition software after a photo of him tending to a protester was featured in a local paper several days after the incident. Link to affidavit: scribd.com/document/89431…

FBI agents conducted surveillance at his home beginning July 10 and captured a photo of Hoopes at the residence, according to the affidavit.

Court filings include still images from surveillance video showing Hoopes allegedly throwing rocks and using a stop sign as a "battering ram."
