My first patent issued—almost exactly a year ago. Life was a bit of a whirlwind at the time, so I’m taking a moment to celebrate it now.

Planting of the Schnable Lab SbDiv 2025 sorghum field is completed! This 2,438 plot field was the toughest field I worked with due the small plot size (1-row wide and 7.5ft long). However, CHIDANAND ULLAGADDi, Kyle Linders, the UNL AgHort farm crew, and I succeeded!

Excited to see the first preprint from my first student, 𝗖𝗲𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘇, one year after he joined the lab! We uncovered spatial heterogeneity along the axis of a single barley leaf, characterized by heritable and region-specific stress response patterns.

Back to Lincoln, NE collecting data on 2000+ plots of sorghum diversity panel. Thank you team Schnable Lab James Schnable for hosting us. I am sure this collaboration between South Dakota State University SDSU College of Ag, Food & Environmental Sciences and University of Nebraska-Lincoln Nebraska Agronomy and Horticulture will lead to fruitful results.

Just wrapped up a late-night session (11PM–1AM CST i.e., 9:30AM to 12:30PM IST) on G×E interactions & stability analysis with ~200 participants. Great questions, great energy! Thanks to Dr. Santosha Rathod & ICAR–NIASM for the invite as part of the adv stats+ML training program.
