@SMcDonaldFCO's reflections on the diversity of today's Foreign Office inspired me to share the story of Sir Horace Phillips, whose autobiography I have been reading. He was the first British Jewish career ambassador. 1/9 👇🏾

Over last 5 yrs, BAME Network got Foreign Office talking about race; we started Summit programme for BAME talent & recruited 1st BAME Board member. Y'day Philip Barton announced FCDO Board: Political Director & 6 DGs, including Kumar Iyer Moazzam Malik & Vijay Rangarajan Kudos

Thanks to UN Library,we have a list of all #UNbudget resolutions since 1946: research.un.org/en/docs/budget… The list suggests that the delay in budget adoption for the 2021 United Nations budget is without precedent since the 1965 budget (when the adoption of the budget failed to happen in 1964).

l'm concerned & disappointed that the UN 2021 budget & plan haven't been adopted yet. United Nations has a responsibility to address the pressing challenges we are facing because of the pandemic. If Member States fail to reach agreement, the consequences for UN work will be dire. 🇺🇳#UNGA75

'All states hold a responsibility to uphold the right of Jewish people to practice their religion and live free from discrimination' It was an honour to cosponsor the Globalising Efforts to Combat Antisemitism event with U.S. Mission to the UN 🇬🇧🇺🇸 The UK is committed to fighting antisemitism

Very proud to honour Sir Horace Phillips, the UK’s first Jewish career ambassador, by dedicating the new ‘Phillips Room’ in Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office King Charles Street building. 75 years since he joined the Diplomatic Service, his story and achievements remain an inspiration.
