I've always had a weak spot for red river hogs... So I'm very happy to co-lead this project with Renzo Balboa and Anna Brüniche-Olsen. BioRxiv preprint out now!

To start the new year off well, we got another paper published! 🎉🎉🎉 We explore the evolutionary history of African bushpigs and their mysterious presence on Madagascar. The study was a team effort, with multiple collaborators, and co-led by Renzo Balboa, Anna Brüniche-Olsen and me. 🧵

This work was a team effort by the Population and Statistical Genetics Group at UCPH group and other collaborators, including Kuja Josiah, Charles Masembe, Évolution & Diversité Biologique, IRD.fr, Lounès Chikhi 🇱🇧🇵🇸, @IGCiencia, and others. A big thank you to all for this great team work!

New paper from our group, led by Renzo Balboa, Dr. Laura Bertola and Anna Brüniche-Olsen, and with multiple collaborators! "African bushpigs exhibit porous species boundaries and appeared in Madagascar concurrently with human arrival" 🐖🧬🌍⛵️

Balboa et al. examine 67 whole African pig genomes, finding incomplete speciation between bushpigs and red river hogs as well as evidence suggesting that humans brought bushpigs to Madagascar 1000-5000 years ago.
