Our own work is built in part on the shoulders of our UAW siblings, many of whom are retirees now. In 1976, following the disappointing Supreme Court decision General Electric v. Gilbert permitting pregnancy discrimination, UAW helped take the fight out of the Court to win

Following the decision, at its 1977 convention, UAW delegates passed a resolution declaring “women’s issues are also UAW issues.” Among other priorities, they fought with other unions to help pass the 1978 Pregnancy Discrimination Act, and trained workers on their new PDA rights
