One of the first 'big think' pieces from Center for Global Development's new (ish) president -- together with Siddhartha Haria -- on the timely topic of aid reform. I can find some places to disagree around the margins, but it's a pretty compelling case imo.

I was struck by how much this conversation came back to the benefits of integration and interconnection within Asia and Pacific. Lessons for other continents. We also shared reminiscences of backpacking around Asia........

Excited to welcome David Evans back to Center for Global Development. Dave embodies the best of CGD--innovative ideas on the big challenges grounded in data and rigorous research and making practical implementable suggestions.

Wow, amazing results on clean air and CO2 reduction. As you drive out of Dhaka you hit miles of these kilns and the air is unbelievably bad. Bricks are used for everything in Bangladesh from houses to roads (they are used like cobbles). Great to hear of practical solutions!

. Center for Global Development we have produced a lot of analysis showing the impact of USAID cuts. In a new initiative a team is identifying some of the most cost-effective exUSAID programs that can still be rescued and match them with donors willing to fund them. npr.org/sections/goats…

Highlight in Vox on our Neonatal Sepsis Project. Between 400k-700k babies die from sepsis each year. It's hard to detect, treatment needs to be swift and while a diagnostic is feasible to develop, one doesn't exist today. Read more below about how we're looking to change that:

Neonatal sepsis kills hundreds of thousands of infants each year. As a new mom, our work Market Shaping Accelerator (MSA) and Center for Global Development to incentivize innovation for rapid, affordable diagnostics feels particularly urgent.

Donors are facing tough choices in the next few months about what education funds to support and by how much. Lee Crawfurd and I set out 4 criteria to prioritize limited resource cgdev.org/blog/four-crit…

So sad to hear of the passing of Stan Fischer. I was junior at the IMF when he was there but he was a strong influence driving up the quality of work across the organization at all levels. He was also incredibly kind when I met him in person. A real example for us all.

Amid rising populism & disillusionment with the global economic order, this year’s Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (Center for Global Development, World Bank, & Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy) comes at a crucial moment.
