Motor traffic is quickly moving back up to ‘normal’ levels. It really is time for Local Authorities to act now and install emergency cycling and walking lanes, as mandated by the Government.

Road-building is exactly the wrong way to restart the economy. It locks in future carbon emissions and air pollution, trashes the countryside, requires massive capital spend and creates few permanent jobs. But it's the kind of grandiosity Johnson loves. theguardian.com/politics/2020/…

Protected cycle track: London boroughs. Some councils with a long way to go .. What stands out - protected cycle lane amounts to just 5% of road length across Gr London. Figures show a long way to go for a comprehensive network of safe cycle routes datawrapper.de/_/0nVvo/

Richard Gourlay (@rgourlay72) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Overall trend is a 0.1% change in regular cyclists year on year across London. Nowhere near enough of a shift given the climate, air quality and inactivity crises we face. Hopefully, rapid action over the Covid-19 crisis .. will see these figures shift datawrapper.de/_/RWp3B/
