Best news i have had all week! No, year!! The amazing Victorian village, the best in the country, has been saved. I am assuming from the press release that it will go to the brilliant ⁦Beamish Museum⁩ but we’ll see. This is a national treasure saved.

The Victorian village at the sadly defunct Flambards has been saved at the 11th hour. I am still feeling very very chipper about the news!

Paul Reed⁩ There were a fair number at the premiere of the film in 2017. I was very fortunate to sit next to one during the film. I would imagine none of these guys are around now.

Just an fyi. In October 2000 I knew of 22 living British prisoners of war from the #GreatWar, the vast majority captured in 1918. All were gone five years later (not really a surprise, I guess) the last dying on 23 December 2005, the last of almost 200,000 captured in #ww1

Has any one got issue no16 of the Western Front Association bulletin (1986)? I am looking for a piece written by #ww1 veteran EW Ford about a cross erected in Belgium after a bomb hit a tented camp killing over 40 comrades. Ernest did the artwork on the cross. The only issue I can’t find is no16!

We always tell the story of Pte Peter Miller as told by Richard van Emden in ‘All Quiet on the Home Front’ when Commonwealth War Graves Thiepval. We then find his name on Pier 7C and let his sister Emily know that her younger brother is not forgotten.

Tomorrow, on 25 June, Captain John Patrick Danny will be remembered at the place where, a century ago, he and a handful of former soldiers who held the 1914 Star and Clasp, held their first meeting at which The Old Contemptibles' Association was inaugurated.

For every retweet of this post, I will donate £1 to the Victoria Cross and George Cross Association up to £50,000. Time is running out following Imperial War Museums’s decision to close the Lord Ashcroft Gallery. Visit while you still can, to honour the bravery of those who risked so much to protect our great nation.

Was walking through York yesterday and saw these medals - I had to ask!! This gentleman was the great grandson of Ernest Sykes VC. He was very kind and spoke to me for a good ten minutes about his relative. #ww1 #greatwar #gallipoli #arras #victoriacross #vc
