My last day today ⁦BBC Newsnight⁩ after 33 years at the BBC. Lots to celebrate tonight, but may be I’m most proud to see my daughter ⁦@ninakwatson⁩ making her way as a young freelance journalist covering world affairs.

Wednesday night was real laugh Frontline Club with 44 years worth of great BBC Newsnight stalwarts including Peter Snow who was there Day One. Billed as leaving do for urbane Mark Urban & brilliant Kirsty Wark but really a Wake to mark end of the show as we know it. So long

Sadly it has taken nearly 25 years for me others and 34 years for Oliver to get this blatant and obvious conviction quashed but I’m absolutely delighted that we didn’t give up and that eventually justice prevailed We really should do better than this!

If you lived in Syria, you would know this is such an incredible moment. Try to think of Syrians as human beings, instead of geopolitics, just for a second. Imagine how people are feeling as their disappeared loved ones are being found in prisons, alive.

To all the analysts jumping on here to warn about tomorrow, Syrians are 10 steps ahead of you. Have some basic human empathy and let those celebrating the release of the unjustly detained, the reuniting of families, the hopes of return, the end of a brutal regime do so in peace.
