It’s that time of year - setting New Year’s goals. I’m noticing a trend with the leaders I’m coaching: their goals are heavily focused on work & family with very few personal goals. While this seems noble it’s a risk - goals should reflect all the important areas of your life!

Have you ever worked for a boss who formed negative opinions of a team member based on 1st impressions? These judgments can be damaging both for the individual & the company. It’s like judging a TV show after 1 episode. Break the snap judgment cycle!

Some of the best advice I ever got from a boss in a high-pressure corporate setting (were competition was definitely King!) was: ā€œThere’s no reason to make enemies for no reason.ā€œ it’s easy to get caught up in the game but be careful about burning bridges! #collaborate

One of the most common mistakes I see leaders make when taking a new role is getting priorities confused! Most leaders talk about having a plan & gaining knowledge, but too quickly get trapped ā€œneeding to be there for their teamā€ leaving them ill prepared to make a real impact!

Many leaders I Coach are looking at job changes in the new year. Some are very confident in their decisions. Others are spending a lot of time asking themselves (and others) - should I or shouldn’t I questions? This is a clear sign that goals and values aren’t aligned! #Friction

I have had several coaching sessions recently with new directors. Most are hyper focused on their team’s results, which is great! But remember success at this level means finding ways to contribute to the broader organization’s goals and driving innovation!

We lost one of the great ones yesterday as we had to say goodbye to our boy Harlan. Tough 3 weeks watching him go from perfectly healthy to this, RIP Har! 10 great years with you!

I was feeling pretty good about being in the top 10% of my Peleton ride this morning until I noticed that there were 7 ā€œnonnasā€ & 3 ā€œgigi’sā€ ahead of me?! Well it is Women’s History Month…!🤣

One of the common themes I’m seeing with the CEOs that I am coaching and advising is that they bring in highly competent consultants to help them, but they have no process to manage them or drive the right outcomes that they want. It leaves them unsatisfied and it cost much more.

One of the most difficult challenges when I first start advising an executive or a company is getting them to acknowledge the reality of their current situation. What appears obvious to someone coming from the outside can be totally missed by highly competent executives.

I stole a great idea from a friend last year and started a new tradition for our family - Monthly Dad & Sons Dinner with our adult kids! It’s an amazing couple of hours for me each month!
