We’ve got “first light” with SPIRAL Lab’s radar system from GSSI GPR! We’re using “Baby Radar” to test ice layering properties in radio frequencies that can be used to interpret spacecraft observations of other planets! Here’s Riley McGlasson testing our first control ice case!

We (and our radars) made it to Reykjavik!!! Aaaandddd we kicked off with needing to make a totally new game plan because the roads to get to our first field site are impassable. But we’re adaptable and already have a great new plan for data collection! 📡❄️🌋

A beautiful day for data collection! Today, we collected lower frequency data and scouted higher elevations. We’re excited to be studying the interactions between icy and volcanic landscapes, especially in the context of the detectability and preservation of subsurface ice!

Everyone at #10thMars should come by poster 105 to hear about the latest from the International Mars Ice Mapper mission concept! Based on community input, it now would feature L-band radar SAR/sounder AND ALSO a high resolution imager, sub-millimeter sounder, and VHF sounder!!!
