Yesterday I had the trepidation and then the joy of reading the Journal of French Studies review of my book Iran and French Orientalism by none other than Prof Michèle Hannoosh. 🤩

There is something special about seeing your own ideas reformulated in the words of someone else, especially when they are so concise and insightful.

I appreciated that she picked up on close reading as a key facet of my work: '...demonstrates a wide and deep knowledge of Persian and Iranian culture and its place in the French nineteenth century, and it excels in its close, nuanced readings of the many works that it addresses'
