A week in super sunny SW Finland helping Gwyn Rivers collect PhD data along with Rob Storrar and some generous Finnish colleagues. Who knew studying (palaeo) glaciology /geomorphology would be so hot?!

Recently, music has been helping me recover from a manic year... awesome colleagues have been helping too. If you're also finally starting to draw breath, celebrate by rewatching this reminder of what amazing geoscientists and music are capable of! youtu.be/XeU7xLhiVj8

I'll presenting my poster tomorrow showing some of the progress made in assessing the use of De Geer moraines to refine palaeo-ice marginal reconstructions in SW Finland. If you're interested, come and say hello! 👋 Poster Room: MAC Lettere CU003 #INQUARoma2023 #INQUARoma_QRA

Great to see the first paper out from Amy Lally's PhD. Really nice GPR and UAV work on a location and subject close to my heart! #eskers. Also the location of a cool bonus feature we found years ago on a pilot for this work

An amazing privilege to visit SW Greenland for fieldwork. Saw this somewhat terrifying huge upwelling of pressurised subglacial water at the terminus of Isunguata Sermia.

New paper out in ESPL, led by Jean Vérité, where we propose that variable ice-water-sediment interactions in response to meltwater forcing can explain the formation of subglacial meltwater corridors. Chris Clark Rob Storrar ICERS at Sheffield doi.org/10.1002/esp.57…

My colleagues and I have designed a new Climate, Sustainability and Environmental Management degree- we are very excited at the opportunity it has provided to disrupt the educational status quo... Read more here!

The first paper from my PhD is now published and available at Quaternary Science Reviews. '3D morphometry of De Geer Moraines and Crevasse-Squeeze Ridges: Differentiating between pushing and squeezing mechanisms from remotely sensed data'. DOI: doi.org/10.1016/j.quas…

Check out Gwyn's first PhD paper for some nice data on De Geer moraines and crevasse squeeze ridges, supporting ice margin/grounding zone formation of De Geer moraines. Also includes a cool ArcGIS python tool for automatically producing morphometry data for long, thin features.

Our new blog is a story of the wonders of ice 🥶 and how we can explore the secret world beneath it! Rob Storrar explains the SLIDE project, which is contributing to our understanding of #climatechange by studying the fate of Greenland's hidden lakes bit.ly/46U0tsY

Many thanks to Rob Storrar for telling us about SLIDE- did you know there are hidden lakes under Greenland's ice? And that we can "see" what they're doing using all kinds of awesome technology? A very cool (🧊) area of #Geoscience! #teachertwitter #Geography #STEM #Climatechange

Very excited that the first paper of my PhD is now published in the Journal of Maps The paper presents glacial geomorphological mapping from contrasting topographic settings at Skálafelljökull in southeast Iceland! 🇮🇸 doi.org/10.1080/174456…
