And today, am excited to welcome Yurii Aulchenko to his first day in Human Genetics GSK. Looking forward to working with you on our mission to apply human genetics to drive drug discovery and development programmes to benefit patients.

It’s increasingly clear that the human genetics field is uniquely blended industry/academia. Unlike in most fields, industry has not only invested significant resources in the science but also shared substantive resources with academia & participated in discovery/translation.

This makes me sad, touching on angry. This tree has been so iconic, so loved and somehow brought history and nature together in lovely Northumberland and someone has cut it down. My research group would have their annual picture here. So awful. Why would anyone want to do this?
