DOJ Civil Rights Division has been one of very few entities fighting to protect the basic human rights of involuntary psychiatric detainees. The division's core mandate will now be simply to defend white snowflakes in the culture wars. nbcnews.com/politics/justi…

Important context for the terrible recent event in Vancouver: The health authority has acknowledged that they had been forcibly drugging the driver for some time. And he was forcibly drugged at the time. ctvnews.ca/vancouver/arti…

Rob Wipond Mad In America There is legislation here in Illinois that would make it easier for involuntary commitment - other States are probably doing the same - Oppose HB2387 docs.google.com/forms/u/0/d/...

And, there it is…forcibly drugged for sometime. Adverse effects of psychotropics can cause impulsivity, aggression & violence. When illicit drugs are involved with violence, nobody has trouble calling that out. Why is this different?

Terrific (terrifying) overview of our long-term care "problem." (These are some of the types of places that replaced asylums.) "corporate owners...refused to allow her staff entrance...to respond to complaints...the state...moves to muzzle the ombudsman" theguardian.com/society/ng-int…

I've heard many people ask this. Often the terror kicks in when people around you become afraid. "Why am I considered to be ill and stigmatised when my psychosis was the best spiritual experience I have had in my life? For what exactly was I punished, and treated as a criminal?"

It’s a damning, brutal episode of PsychForce Report TV, as Jesse Mangan and I discuss some of the biggest news stories about involuntary commitment. youtu.be/JmtGm3KE0-E

Looks like a terrific, damning investigative report from DRNC. "Involuntary Commitment in NC: Overused, Misused, and Harmful." I'm especially interested to learn more about their highlighting of abuses of the petitioning process. disabilityrightsnc.org/news/involunta…

Gem of a quote: "This is almost like science fiction to me,” one hospital ED staff member reported to us. “I am watching what is happening to human beings and wondering, are we actually helping people?”

Spouses and family members often use involuntary commitment laws against their own "loved ones"--all too often domestic violence by any other name. In many cases, police & mental health professionals are just gullible puppets of the abusers. nbcmiami.com/investigations…

Couched in terms of "mental health support", this city is considering declaring an "emergency" and empowering police to impose all-night curfews and arrest/commit anyone living on the street. Kind of baldly exposes what these initiatives are really about! cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

Kids dying in govt (both public & privatized) care. Even more shocking how many they report as "unknown" causes. High % of kids in govt care are being involuntarily heavily drugged, and coroners don't normally record that as a possible cause of death. globalnews.ca/news/11190625/…

BC plans 'review' of its involuntary commitment laws. This proposed framework of considerations for such a review from Health Justice could be well applied in any state or province. healthjustice.ca/mhareview Compliance with constitution, scientific evidence, facility standards etc.
