NEW: 69% of tax cuts in the Senate GOP bill go to the richest 20% of Americans. Just 11% go to the middle class. Working families get crumbs – and then lose even those to Trump's tariffs. Our full analysis: itep.org/analysis-of-ta…

My latest on how the pending budget bill likely will make food assistance completely unavailable in some states, resulting in a massive resurgence of hunger and making SNAP politically unsustainable nationally. thehill.com/opinion/financ…

The Senate’s version of OBBBA hits poor families even harder than the initial version passed by the House — now the poorest Americans will lose 2.9% of their income while the richest gain 2.2%

And the bill includes other policies that make errors more likely & increase the risk eligible people lose access to the food benefits they need. It adds huge amounts of red tape for states & families—while slashing federal funding for states to hire staff, update systems, etc.

I’ve seen an article dispute the claim that Alabama will be on the hook for more money (now 10%) for SNAP because of this. You know what doesn’t help reduce error rates? Cutting funding to administer and monitor the program…which is basically what this bill does as punishment.

Fact 🔟: States pay for their #Medicaid program in many ways. "Provider taxes” is where each state decides who (e.g. hospitals & health systems, nursing facilities, managed care orgs) & how to apply the tax. #Medicaid isn't sustainable w/out these taxes. childrenshospitals.org/news/cha-blog/…

Paid parental leave for Alabama teachers and state workers officially takes effect! This is a meaningful step for families across our state. #alpolitics

Under the Senate tax plan, Trump’s tariffs would offset most of the tax cuts for the bottom 80% of Americans. For the bottom 40% of Americans, the tariffs would be greater than the tax cuts. Working-class Americans pay more for the tax cuts given to the wealthiest few.

Ways the Senate budget bill hurts hungry families in AL: 📉AL on the hook for paying 10% of benefits + 25% of admin; $207M next year 🍳 food assistance at risk for 750k Alabamians, 85% of whom are children, elderly or disabled 🛒 AL grocers hit hard al.com/news/2025/06/m…

By voting to financially reward states with the HIGHEST error rates, Republicans turned incentives for fraud upside down. 🙃 States like Alaska & 9 others that make the most mistakes in SNAP benefits go scot-free from SNAP cost shifts for two years while the rest pay.

There's a lot of focus on what Medicaid and ACA cuts would mean for hospitals, because hospitals have lobbyists. That doesn't negate what the cuts would mean for people, with about 12 million people projected to become uninsured due to the megabill.

Senate Republicans made a horrible House bill even worse. House Republicans should step back & find the courage to say no to any bill that would raise costs & take health coverage & food assistance away from people struggling to afford the basics.

New: During a meeting with Mods in the WH, Trump told members that if they want to win elections, they shouldn’t touch: Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security “But we’re touching Medicaid in this bill,” one member responded to Trump, per 3 sources. notus.org/congress/recon…

Do people understand what Trump's "Beautiful" bill does? It's going to shut down like half the small-town hospitals in America in order to give rich people tax cuts larger than the GDP of France. It's a declaration of war against the heartland

This is what the filibuster gives us. Must pass, terrible, confusing legislation that no one actually likes but no one can vote against because it’s the only bill that can get done all year.
