If there's a player who knows what's going on in Stearns' head right now it might be Rebecca Marino, who faced the same Venus challenge exactly three years ago here in D.C., and beat her 6-4 in the third. youtu.be/NrkK-1qODP0

Vancouver was well served by City Manager Paul Mochrie, a skilled, thoughtful professional. I wish him the best. I've no insight or agreement on Sim and Mochrie conversation that "mutually agreed that it was the right time for a leadership change" but it's a big loss for CofV.

Another hero gone. RIP WW II vet Barbara Ruth Scott, 99, of Vancouver. Served with the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service, the famous Wrens. A social worker, she showed her big heart by going to post-war Germany to support victims of war-time displacement. #LestWeForget

From the obits: When his grandkids couldn't find a place to play, Donald Seaman built a baseball stadium at Okotoks, AB. At 99, this May, 205 young players raised their hats to him in tribute. After that, he said he no longer cared about living to 100, and died 17 days short.

Paul Samyn, editor of the wonderful, independent Winnipeg Free Press, writes about visiting Vimy Ridge at a time when Canada is being ridiculed, demeaned and economically damaged by the guy in the White House. #ElbowsUp #patriotism
