Today I presented some of the work we’ve been doing as part of the BOWIE project ECOWind, highlighting the impacts of substrate-borne vibrations on marine invertebrate species 🦞🦀. It was great to share this experience with some other colleagues from University of Hull too!

A new paper led by Sebastian Sippel just appeared in Nature arguing that ocean temperature measurements in the early 20th century have a cold bias. It's a fun story illustrating the process of scientific discovery, so let me talk about it a bit. 🧵 nature.com/articles/s4158…

I'm so excited to be featured in this excellent article that highlights how important plankton are and the key roles of OSPAR and the ThePlanktonManifesto in assessing and championing plankton. Where plankton fits in the Earth’s ecosystem irishtimes.com/science/2024/1…

meanwhile as East Riding Council and Hull City Council look for even more hilarious names for the road gritters, I've heard of at least two cycle crashes on ice this morning and the unsalted pavements are lethal. A broken hip costs the NHS about £70k. Same price as a mini-gritter.

IMPORTANT The campaign for a GCSE in Natural History has stalled. Labour see it as a "Conservative initiative" and won't progress it. It is not a political football, every child has the right to learn about the wonder of the natural world. Plse ask you MP to lobby for it now. 🙏

The best day to take action was yesterday. The next best day is today. When many parts of the coastline look like this, we need to do something. What can you do to help reduce plastic pollution today? #beachcleanup #makeadifference #plasticproblem
