A strong message but not sure if this was the right decision. It will just give Fico more reason to attack the "liberal" EU, and it may alienate Pellegrini, who has thus far staunchly reaffirmed SK's Euro-Atlantic commitments.

Great post! We can also expect a hostile relationship between Fico’s govt, and NGOs and media. Fico blames both for his 2018 ouster and 2020 loss. Already talking about a “foreign agent” law for NGOs, and members of govt already excluding some journalists from press conferences.

Orbán’s support of Fico and Pellegrini is real — Hungarian regions did turn out for Pelle in the 2nd round, see the 3x gain in Dunajska Streda b/w rounds. But it’s important to remember that Slovakia’s Hungarians are not one ideological bloc. Supporting Orbán remains contentious.
