Our new paper on the effects of diapause on bark beetle phenology just got published in Ecological Entomology. We show the interplay of temperature and photoperiod and how climate change prolongs the repoductive season of Ips typographus. resjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

This is a sweet burying beetle larva. Each instar smells different, and mothers respond to the scent during feeding. Congrats to Jacky Sahm on publishing the third chapter of her PhD thesis: The scent of offspring Behavioral Ecology #buryingbeetles academic.oup.com/beheco/article…

First day of our Annual Gevol Meeting in Frankfurt. We started with a philosophical talk about function and innovation by Ulrich Krohs and closed the day by a talk about caddisflies by @JHeckenhauer. Meeting all the friends and collegues feels a bit like a class trip.

2nd day Gevol meeting started with a great talk by Kristen Panfilio, we had a student meeting during our lunch break and a cool tour through the collection. Last but not least: typical Frankfurt dinner with Apfelwein.

Hundreds of ant species farm fungi today, and studies of ant evolution suggest the adaptation goes back tens of millions of years. Now, researchers have pinpointed a date for the origins of the partnership and suggest a surprising catalyst. bit.ly/3zSkRQH
