We have made over 140 attempts in two months to reach besieged civilians in North Gaza. Almost zero access. We need to reach the survivors of this horrific destruction, especially now last hospitals have been taken out:

I am grateful to be in Geneva, spending time with my family and celebrating the New Year after the United Nations mission to negotiate the release of our colleagues and the bombardment at Sana’a Airport by Israel as we attempted to leave #Yemen. I am okay, but I have developed tinnitus

China approved the world's biggest dam. If built, it will be three times the current champion Three Gorges. Uh, Nine Gorges? Anyway, David Fickling argues China doesn't need it. Reforming electricity markets would do more good. bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

Fascinating video uploaded by the K-2 Battalion showing a Russian mechanised assault in their sector just east of Siversk, with high-res drone footage commentated in detail by commander "Oscar". Plenty of evidence of how drones now dominate this war. 1/ youtube.com/watch?v=24WMSi…

Soon after, we see numerous Russian MT-LB APCs, rolling out in different parts of the sector. Oscar mentions that part of the aim is to overwhelm the defending drone teams by way of sheer numbers, pointing to UAVs now being the main tool for defending against an assault. 4/

The conclusion? I remember how a year ago, the drone-vs-artillery debate was still raging. Artillery is still a crucial source of battlefield firepower. But having made monthly trips out to the front over 2024, I cannot overstate how fast things have moved and been upscaled. 9/

This is my last post with this account on this plattform, at least for the foreseeable future. I'll keep reading to follow some global dynamics that I cannot observe elsewhere. But since I am also leaving international research, I have zero incentives to contribute to Musk-X.
