Today, we celebrate a retirement on @theJR! Join us as we thank our first RCB coring bit for its 61 hours of service on Hole U1556B. A replacement for the bit has already been identified and will begin its employment immediately. #EXP390 #NSFfunded

The superstar bit on the right travelled down through 5km of water, 280 m of sediment and cored its way through nearly 185 m of lava, returning us beautiful cores, working very hard for ~5 days. It came back battered and bruised - but it is a hero in my eyes! #Exp390 @theJR
