Congrats to ruolinleng winner of the inaugural Bill Barlow award for PhD fieldwork in the Himalaya, supporting her work on remote sensing of ecohydrology above the treeline. Thank you very much to RSPSoc for supporting vital fieldwork by early stage researchers #UKEO2022

Congrats to PhD researcher ruolinleng for her first authored paper on Himalayan alpine ecohydrology. As climate warms, more land will become available for plant growth and this will likely impact hydrological processes. Small plants matter!

Here’s how Nepal regenerated its forests 🌲: From 1992 to 2016, forest cover in the country almost doubled. A study using #Landsat data and interviews with people in Nepali villages found that community-led forest management was associated with regrowth. go.nasa.gov/3x9kpIT

A new phenomenon: massive rain 10 days ago has eroded the thick moraine debris that had previously covered and protected old dead ice. It is now exposed at surprising locations around Vadret Pers, Eastern Switzerland, and is quickly melting

As part of editorial role within PiPG Journal I recently led an exercise to perform a horizon scan for emerging topics or areas of interest for the discipline. Working collaboratively with a great team of international geographers, we produced this piece journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/03…
