She's basically asking why he didn't make something more like The Zone Of Interest, and the obvious answer is that only works when the background violence you show glimpses of is a historical event your entire audience already recognises as the grotesque crime it was

Candidate selection processes in the Labour Party actively suppress any risk of personality or autonomous thought, so the current crop who speak like semi-sentient briefing papers are not exactly surprising.

Permanently removing Palestinians from Gaza was always the plan. That much was clear from the start. We have allowed this, we have funded this, and we have legitimised this. Cowardly political leaders have watched, unbothered. It’s unforgivable. aljazeera.com/news/2025/5/5/…

Wake up in the morning, make tea, scroll through images of massacres & inflicted starvation & videos of racist hate speech from Israelis, feel angry & ill, go have a shower, go to work. Rinse & repeat. This is now lucky people's normal. And we will suffer for it one day.

Living Rent needs backing in the thousands on this - ScotGov is being lobbied hard by developers who want to create a two-tier system of rent controls. We can’t allow that to happen at this late stage! Sign, share, and get along to your local branch meeting to get organised 🚩

Sign our petition! ✍️ Since the government announced rent controls in the housing bill, landlords have been doing all they can to water it down - and the government are listening! ✍️ livingrent.org/landlords_ruin…

Was on BBC Radio Scotland this morning a year on from Scotgov’s housing emergency. Things have only gotten worse, and so-called ‘affordable’ housing targets won’t fix it. We need robust rent controls, homes for social rent, and empty homes brought back into use now. Join Living Rent

100,000 Scots private rented homes not fit for human habitation. The number of privately rented homes that are falling below the 'tolerable standard' increased sixfold from 7,020 (4%) in 2018 to 94,770 (27%) in 2023. The real story of private rental. heraldscotland.com/news/25175301.…

I put in an FOI for correspondence about Angus Robertson's meeting with the deputy Israeli ambassador. The Scottish Government told the Information Commissioner that releasing the information "could be considered as an antisemitic action". Yes, really!

Useful discussion. Housing stigma (and stigma of people within) not just symbolic but rooted in degraded material conditions. The latter is what must be addressed.

Very pleased to see Future Economy Scotland wage squeeze analysis raised at FMQs. In 2024 the average full-time worker in Scotland earned £38,464 a year. If earnings had instead grown in line with pre 2008 crisis trends, the same worker would be earning £53,923 today.

A studio on Dixon avenue for over a grand a month - this is nothing but wage theft. Join Living Rent to win the rent controls Scotland needs.

🪧 Enable Scotland members, many from our branch, began historic strike action today. Time for the Scottish Government to get real on pay for social care. Our care workers are worth far more! #InUNISON

If folk want to talk about a broken social contract then we should be discussing the price of housing, how much it costs to live and to raise a family and expectations of job security and wage levels. Landlords, banks and bosses ought to be the central villains.
