'If we are serious about making the Church a safe place for women... we must refuse to engage in hierarchical behaviour and address unhealthy systems of power, celebrity, competitiveness, secrecy and self-protection.' premierchristianity.com/opinion/the-ch…

"we live with the Five Guiding Principles and it works for us" according to the Archbishop of York. Oh really??? I would suggest that the words 'works' and 'us' are both doing some pretty heavy lifting here! For whom does enshrining inequality 'work'?! Women and the Church

My open letter to Newcastle Diocese (CofE) following this week’s General Synod #GeneralSynod debates on safeguarding ⬇️ newcastle.anglican.org/news/an-open-l… ‘This is indeed a watershed time for the Church and I do not think my episcopal colleagues in particular grasp this’.

Micro-aggressions add up and end up being debilitating wounds. Why are we so careless of the amazing hardworking female clergy in The Church of England? We won’t get rid of sexism while we still condone institutional discrimination #synod BishopSarah

I preached about change this morning: naming our fears, trusting in the presence of Jesus among us, all change being held within the unchanging love and grace of God. I don't think I've ever preached specifically about change before. It went down surprisingly well.

Adoration and Benediction. A dark church. Candlelight. Silence. And our Lord Jesus. Blessed be Jesus in the most holy sacrament of the altar. Bring your whole self here. Worship and adore Him. Christ gazes on you with great love. 🙏🏻

Hilariously accurate from Dave Walker as ever. Only missing my personal hospital-visiting nemesis: finding the way out again afterwards (although perhaps this is a subcategory of 'navigating the corridors').

6 months ago today! Celebrating the joy of being in a place and a role which feels absolutely right. Being the vicar of these two wonderful parishes must be the best job in the CofE, I think. (And if I still think that after a Sunday evening Deanery Synod, it must be true!)

Prosecco in one hand, creme egg in the other, surrounded by lovely people from both my churches, chatting and laughing together, after a truly beautiful Easter Vigil Mass... I must be the luckiest priest in the world. God is good. Happy Easter! Alleluia, Christ is risen!

I hope this is the sort of church we are as On Fire Mission. We don't always get it right, but this is how we long to be: a reflection of God's boundless love. #OFMonsite2025 #PilgrimPeople

This is such brilliant news. Leah is exactly the sort of bishop the church needs - wise, generous, compassionate, and absolutely reliant on God.

Last parish duty before heading off to General Synod as part of the Pastoral Support Team: our regular Thursday night mass at St Peter Cowgate, at which we will pray tonight for all members of #synod, and for each of our Newcastle Diocese reps by name. 🙏

Post #synod treat to myself: deep-fried food in splendid solitude and quiet. It's a privilege to serve the members and staff of Synod as part of the pastoral chaplaincy team. But now time for this introvert to recharge! Praying for safe travels as we all return to the day-to-day.

Always nice to make new friends at #synod... This fluffy little chap and his many friends and relations were a delight. (And there were some pretty great humans there too.)

Finished a super-hectic couple of weeks with the two most important items in my diary: safeguarding training, followed by mass. And now... time for holiday!
