Another look at the full hall coronal mass ejection launched by yesterday's M9.8 solar flare. As expected, the plasma cloud is earth-directed and expected to arrive late on Friday, 1 December. Expect geomagnetic storm conditions after the cloud arrives.

It's perihelion day, #Today. In Northern Hemisphere we're right in the middle of winter, but Earth is actually at its closest position to the Sun. Today the Earth is 5 million kilometeres closer to the Sun than it is are in early July. So why isn't hotter than in July?

SIGNIFICANT SOLAR FLARE DURING EXTREME GEOMAGNETIC STORM: As if the extreme geomagnetic storm weren't enough for space weather forecasters tonight, a significant solar flare is also occurring now too from the Active Region that is responsible for all the chaos closer to Earth.

I used a specially modified telescope, over a terabyte worth of photos, and help from a total solar eclipse to create the most dynamic image of our sun I’ve ever created. This 375 megapixel image is a blend of science and art to demonstrate the chaos of our star.
