1. Some interesting nuggets from IS on #Congo in this week’s Al Naba. Here it is admitting that ISCAP has been hit hard by DRC-Uganda’s Operation Shujaa recently with many fighters and dependents being killed. It then frames the recent uptick of violence and massacres as revenge

1. Some numbers on Islamic State Central Africa Province #Congo operational claims and propaganda releases in 2024: 292 total claims - the highest yearly total. For comparison, 2023 just recorded 126, while 2022 had 156. Dec. 2024 the highest, with 42 claims; May had 41.

Some interesting context for why Sheikh Hassan and Ibn Omar were sidelined in July 2022, after which IS-Mozambique made a concerted shift towards civilian outreach. Lot of similarities to IS-Central’s demotion of Shekau in 2016 and the reforms undertaken by ISWAP afterwards.

Horrifically graphic video that I seriously caution against viewing. But just for clarity, this mass killing took place on June 28, 2021. Islamic State released screenshots of this video two days later. Unclear why the original video is now circulating.

In some ways, we’re a bit lucky they texted this stuff to an actual journalist. The number of leaks, hacks and other incompetent vulnerabilities that *don’t* immediately result in an exposé will absolutely dwarf this, and this administration will never reveal or admit them.

Vance is pretty consistent on this, rejecting America as an "idea" in favor of a very European concept of in-group blood-and-soil nationalism. Ironically, a lot of it stems from his rejection by elites in Cincinnati who've been there far longer than he theamericanconservative.com/going-back-to-…

Seems like an obvious fix for broadband in big chunks of Africa is connecting Starlink to existing mobile networks. Put terminals on each tower and use the microwave antennas that towers use to piggyback off one another in the absence of fiber to load share.

So Pope Francis dies like seven hours after meeting our reportedly Catholic VP and now they’re posting this on the official White House account ?!?

The Islamic State's Central Africa Province (aka the ADF) is claiming that over the last month it has engaged in an actual da'wah campaign in DRC's Ituri Province, preaching to locals, and converting around 50 people to Islam. If true, this is a marked change for the group.
