Always remember—because the issue will certainly come back around—Republicans absolutely do not care about fiscal responsibility and the existential threat of crushing national debt.

So we spend $45 million on a military parade the President Donald J. Trump orders up on his birthday but cut a $5 million program to provide mental health services to the families of military personnel serving overseas?!?

Fewer stories about what a big win this is for Trump and Johnson and more stories about how this bill will affect poor and working class people

I’m pissed, but mostly I’m just sad for the millions of people who will suffer because of what Republicans did today. Many, if not most, are Trump voters. And most probably have no idea what this law will actually mean for them. “Well, that’s what they voted for.“ “They

Former president George W. Bush said in a statement Sunday that he and former first lady Laura Bush are “heartbroken by the loss of life and the agony so many are feeling” in Texas. More updates here: wapo.st/3GtnCvg

As heartbreaking news continues to emerge from central Texas, Chasten Glezman Buttigieg and I are thinking of everyone affected and grateful for the extraordinary work of first responders. Here are some ways all of us can help:

We've only seen the first 7 of the letters, but they point to basically nothing as having changed since Liberation Day, with total tariff rates at roughly the same punitive levels. It was destructive, incoherent & ill-informed then, and little has changed x.com/JustinWolfers/…

This is footage from today in MacArthur Park. Minutes before, there were more than 20 kids playing — then, the MILITARY comes through. The SECOND I heard about this, I went to the park to speak to the person in charge to tell them it needed to end NOW. Absolutely outrageous.

New: Gov. Tim Walz on Monday gave his strongest signal yet that he intends to seek a third consecutive term next year, predicting he will win if he runs again and warning possible challengers they’d face the “best fundraiser that ever sat in this office.” startribune.com/gov-tim-walz-b…

There’s plenty of competition from this administration alone, but sending letters to random countries announcing new tariffs—because you failed to make a single trade deal—has to be one of the weakest and most embarrassing moments yet.

The President has just tweeted another 7 trade "letters." We have details on 14 countries, and it's weirder than I imagined. The new tariffs are the old "Liberation Day" numbers +/- a few percentage points. If these were a bad idea 90 days ago, why are they a good idea now?

The White House appears not to know its only tariff policy. The letters say that country-specific tariffs apply "separate from All Sectoral Tariffs," which sounds more like "in addition to," than "instead of." But they're telling journos these tariffs don't "stack" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
